A Playback Theatre Sampler

“People need to tell their stories. It's a basic human imperative. From the telling of our stories comes our sense of identity, our place in the world, and our compass of the world itself.”
-Jo Salas, original member of Playback Theatre

Playback Theatre brings “theatre back from the domain of entertainment to its earlier purpose of preserving memory and holding the tribe together.”
-Jonathan Fox, Founder of Playback Theatre

Join us for a day of Playback Theatre in the studios of the Distillery District.

This one-day program is designed for actors, arts-based practitioners, and facilitators in healing and community arts who have an interest in getting “inside” the experience of Playback Theatre by trying on the roles of actor, storyteller and musician. Playback Theatre uses storytelling and improvisation to build trust and understanding within communities.

Led by Christopher von Baeyer, Artistic Director of the award-winning Toronto Playback Theatre, this program gives an opportunity for participants to work together to learn more about this unique approach to using theatre as a tool for personal, professional and community development.

The goal of the workshop is to:
Offer a professional development opportunity for participants
in the theories and practices of Playback Theatre

Create a space for sharing and enacting of personal stories
on themes that are important to the participants of the program

Create dialogue about future possibilities and applications
of Playback Theatre in the Toronto area

Please come and bring along loose clothing to wear and stories to tell!
Limited enrollment, please apply early.
